With a fantastic mix of competitions, entertainment, and village spirit, we invite you to embrace the charm and creativity that make this event so special.
The Chipstead Village Flower Show and Fair is a remarkable combination of two events that have been celebrated in Chipstead Village for many years.
“Chipstead” is most likely a corruption of “ceapstede”, a place where a market existed and is first mentioned in AD579. The first reference to a fair, rather than a market, is in 1549, when a fair was held on 20th July – St Margaret’s day. It seems, however, that the fair was the scene of some notoriety that offended Victorian tastes and in 1854 the local gentry banded together to have it successfully “suppressed” by Reigate Police. By the late 19th century a Flower Show once again was being held locally, alternating between Chipstead, Chaldon, Merstham and Mugswell. In 1910 the Flower Show was held in Chipstead (probably at Elmore) and has taken place annually in the village ever since.

Volunteering
Chipstead Flower Show is run by volunteers from around Chipstead and beyond, for the people of Chipstead and beyond, and is now approaching the 109th year. We would love to hear from anybody who can assist, either on the day, or the days leading up to the show. We need help in the main flower show marquee, in the tea tent, BBQ or helping to set up the showground the week before. New committee members are also welcome.

As with many organisations in the village, the Chipstead Village Flower Show and Fair, welcomes your continued support to grow and improve. The cost of the marquees, catering equipment, insurance etc., is substantial and rising each year and the planning, financing and execution of this wonderful village event becomes progressively more challenging to sustain.
We are therefore appealing to local individuals who have enjoyed the Flower Show over a number of years, and inviting them to support the Flower Show financially along with the local businesses who offer us sponsorship. We wish to invite you join a new initiative by becoming a “Friend of the Chipstead Village Flower Show and Fair”.
You will see that we have pitched membership at £40 per person, per annum. In return you will receive the following benefits:
Two free tickets to the Flower Show (on presentation of membership card)
