We regret to announce that the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) have decided not to give the Biggin Hill Spitfire permission to fly over our flower show on the 14th July.
This is due to events in the past few years, which has meant that restrictions on public displays are becoming increasingly strict.
We regret their decision, particularly as we had been given various encouraging comments. It is difficult to understand as Chipstead stands in such glorious empty countryside. It seems that low flying helicopters and other light aircraft are allowed to fly over, but not a celebrational 9 minute Spitfire for the 100th anniversary of the RAF.
However this shouldn't detract from the day as there's plenty of other attractions to keep everyone entertained.
